Info

The National Portrait Gallery is currently closed until spring 2023, while essential building works take place on our Inspiring People redevelopment.

Inspiring People will transform the National Portrait Gallery, with a comprehensive re-presentation of the Collection from the Tudors to now, combined with a complete refurbishment of the building, a more welcoming visitor entrance and a new state-of-the art learning centre, enabling us to become more open and accessible to all. This will be accompanied by an exciting national programme of loans, events and community projects.

We look forward to staying connected throughout the redevelopment period and to welcoming you back to the Gallery in London in 2023.

Pre-booked tickets

If you’ve booked a ticket for an exhibition or event from the 19 March to 28 June you should have received an email from us regarding your purchase. Please be aware that due to reduced staffing levels there may be a delay in responding to enquiries or processing refunds or gift vouchers.

As a charity, your ticket purchase directly supports the work of the Gallery. If you are able, it would make a huge difference to us if you would consider turning your ticket purchase into a donation to help support us during this difficult time.
